Dynamic Environments : Engineer Systems Modeling & Simulation - Level 3/4

Northrop Grumman•Chandler, AZ
•$98,400 - $184,200•Onsite

About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Mechanical Engineering Organization is hiring a Dynamic Environments Engineer Systems Modeling & Simulation, Level 3 or Level 4, at its Chandler, Arizona facility. The position develops and analyzes dynamic environments associated with launch vehicle operations, including random vibration, shock, and acoustics. The engineer performs analyses using classical and computer-aided techniques and presents results in written reports and oral presentations. The role includes building finite element and statistical energy analysis models for dynamic simulations; developing dynamics test requirements and qualification approaches for avionics components and secondary structures; and carrying out vibration and shock tests from pre-test analysis through sensor installation, testing, data analysis, model correlation, and reporting. The engineer also analyzes acceleration and pressure time-history data from ground tests and flight for vibroacoustic analyses and provides dynamic design guidelines and requirements to mechanical designers during early hardware development.

Requirements

  • For Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM and 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM and 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • For Level 4: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM and 6 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM and 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • In-depth knowledge of vibration theory, structural dynamics, rigid body dynamics, and finite element methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or higher at the time of application.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficiency in FEA software, preferably NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or Femap.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  • Ability to apply fundamental analytical techniques and prepare written analyses.
  • Experience with modal testing, modal analysis, or explicit dynamics/FEA.
  • Familiarity with Linux.

  • Generate dynamics test requirements and an overall qualification test approach for avionics components and secondary structures.
  • Execute vibration and shock testing from start to finish, including pre-test analysis, sensor selection and installation, testing, data analysis, model correlation, and report generation.
  • Analyze acceleration and pressure time-history data from ground tests and flight for vibroacoustic analyses.
  • Provide dynamic design guidelines and requirements to mechanical designers during early phases of hardware development.

Benefits

  • Health insurance coverage.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • Savings plan.
  • Company-paid holidays.
  • Paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus.
