Engineer, Software I

Rise Broadband•Berthoud, NV
•$77,009 - $97,800

About The Position

Help shape AI-accelerated development at Rise Internet by partnering with teams across the company to build web apps, applets, automations, and integrations. The role works with teams in network and engineering, sales and marketing, customer support, and finance and operations, using systems and data behind a broadband operation. The technology stack includes Postgres, MySQL, Kubernetes, and Python APIs. The company values building and shipping over expertise in any one tool. The role owns delivery with guidance from the Principal Software Architect and senior technical leaders, who provide regular code reviews and architecture support, scope projects to the employee’s experience, and review and approve production changes while the employee develops experience. The successful candidate will deliver projects from initial discussion through deployment and ongoing support, maintain and modernize existing software and tools, and help establish reliable AI-accelerated development practices. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. A link to relevant work, such as a portfolio, GitHub repository, or project—ideally one made with AI tools—is encouraged.

Requirements

  • A background in computer science, engineering, or AI.
  • At least one substantive project taken from concept to completion through coursework, personal work, an internship, or a job.
  • Strong project ownership and ability to work autonomously toward a goal.
  • Strong written and verbal communication tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience using an agentic coding tool, such as Claude Code, Amp Code, Cursor, or Codex, to solve real problems.
  • Working knowledge of APIs and integration, including REST, webhooks, MCP (Model Context Protocol), authentication, and reading and applying other systems’ documentation.
  • Working SQL and enough database fluency to wrangle the data a solution needs.
  • Proficiency with Git, including branching, versioning, and maintaining parallel workstreams across multiple people and AI agents.
  • Ability to explain, debug, and independently verify code, including AI-generated code, so it stands up to peer review.
  • Familiarity with deployment and testing basics, including containers, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and writing tests.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, AI, or a related field (not required).
  • Experience building with LLM APIs, including prompting, tool calling, agents, RAG, or frameworks such as Google ADK or LangChain.
  • Experience with classical machine learning.
  • Experience building data pipelines.
  • Telco, ISP, or WISP background.
  • Hands-on cloud experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with teams to understand their needs and help triage, scope, and prioritize requests with stakeholders.
  • Use AI coding tools to design and build custom solutions and integrations with existing platforms.
  • Take projects from an initial conversation through deployment and ongoing support.
  • Support shipped work by fixing issues, answering user questions, and participating in an on-call rotation for production tools.
  • Test early, gather feedback from users, and iterate on solutions.
  • Learn production safeguards with senior guidance, including safe database changes, monitoring, and rollbacks.
  • Help establish reliable AI-accelerated development practices, including infrastructure setup, deployment pipelines, testing, and evaluation.
  • Maintain legacy code and help migrate scripts, spreadsheets, apps, and services to modern tools and infrastructure.
  • Document work so others can use, maintain, and extend it.
