About The Position

This position represents an intermediate progression level within the Engineer series, ranging from developing contributors to technical experts. The role performs complex engineering work requiring strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and experience in the assigned functional area. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and executing major portions of complex projects to meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance objectives. The position requires independent evaluation and application of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to develop practical solutions, establish sound standards, and ensure compliance with design, regulatory, and company requirements. At higher proficiency levels, the engineer may provide technical leadership, mentor less experienced engineers, and serve as a subject matter expert on matters with legal, regulatory, operational, or business impacts. This role supports operations, outage planning and execution, controls system reliability, project development, and technical evaluations that contribute to safe, reliable, and efficient fleet performance.

Requirements

  • Engineer: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience (A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories, principles, concepts, and fundamentals
  • Developmental experience in a professional engineering position
  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Understanding and application of configuration management
  • Planning, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills
  • Senior Engineer: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience (A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
  • Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles
  • Skilled in advanced techniques and modification of theories, precepts, and practices
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead
  • Strong personal computer skills
  • In-depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs
  • Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills
  • Staff Engineer: 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices
  • Skilled in advanced techniques and modification of theories, precepts, and practices
  • Full knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters
  • Recognized expert by other engineers and management in assigned area
  • Provides expert technical advice to other engineers and management
  • Strong planning and project management skills
  • Strong technical and organizational leadership skills
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and support stations during gas turbine trips, runbacks, and other operational events.
  • Provide expertise on gas turbines and Balance of Plant system interfaces.
  • Coordinate with OEM controls engineers to review, plan, and support outage work.
  • Serve as on-site technical lead for control-related outage activities, as needed.
  • Use tools such as Excel, PI Vision, TrendMiner, and JMP to evaluate performance and support technical decisions.
  • Lead or support Root Cause Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis efforts.
  • Review monthly OEM reports and operating data to identify trends and support fleet reliability.
  • Develop technical scopes of work for controls-related projects initiated by engineering, station personnel, or OEM partners.
  • Identify and lead initiatives that improve gas turbine fleet reliability, performance, and long-term value.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations for projects, RCAs, FMEAs, and other engineering initiatives.
  • Review OEM controls setting changes intended to improve reliability, availability, and performance.
  • Maintain familiarity with gas turbine controls and HMI applications.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network, power, and cybersecurity issues related to HMI applications and controls networks.
  • Develop lifecycle strategies for fleet control systems to support reliability, modernization, and compliance.
  • Maintain internal forms, procedures, and documentation for Cyber Security Standards and applicable NERC Medium requirements.
  • Support startup testing and Functional Acceptance Tests, as required.
