About The Position

This individual will be responsible for supporting the operations of Avangrid’s Wind Turbine fleet primarily through failure investigation and troubleshooting. The role serves as a technical liaison in the field to gather data, samples, and observations for failure investigations of wind turbine components and to facilitate resolution of technical issues. The position also provides technical support during investigations into failures and evaluation of operational and performance issues, supports the development of technical documentation, and participates in conference calls with suppliers and OEMs to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Additionally, the role supports internal efforts to investigate failures, carry out testing, and evaluate corrective actions, as well as product improvement programs and the development of second and third-tier suppliers. Site visits to generating plants and suppliers are expected to investigate issues first-hand, and a review and critique of OEM maintenance practices will be conducted to ensure sufficiency and propose modifications where necessary.

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering, math, physics, or other technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Technical Background and demonstrated 5 years’ experience in wind turbine engineering or operations.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Understanding of technical due diligence.
  • Ability to climb 100-meter-tall steel towers and to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to travel around the US and overseas; approximately 20 % travel

  • Advanced knowledge of various Wind Turbine platforms primarily with GE and Suzlon.
  • Innovative and analytical way of thinking, with demonstrated acumen for troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems and competency with electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Competency with use of electrical and mechanical tools
  • Proficiency utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, and other office programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical liaison in the field to gather data, samples, and observations, in support failure investigations of wind turbine components (such as gearboxes, blades, generators, converters, and transformers) and to facilitate resolution of technical issues.
  • Provide technical support during investigations into failures and evaluation of operational and performance issues.
  • Support the development of technical documentation such as service bulletins and work instructions and carry out procedures in the field.
  • Support conference calls with suppliers to ensure their compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Support meetings and calls with original equipment manufacturers and service providers to ensure quality and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Review supplier’s root cause failure analysis and corrective action documentation.
  • Support internal efforts to investigate failures and to carry out testing and measurement to evaluate potential corrective actions
  • Support product improvement programs designed to increase wind turbine performance and/or reduce operational costs.
  • Support efforts to develop and qualify second and third-tier suppliers and parts.
  • Visit generating plants and suppliers as to investigate issues first-hand.
  • Review and critique OEM maintenance practices with the objective ensuring OEM practices are sufficient to successfully maintain equipment and propose modifications to procedures where necessary.
