Engineer, Manager - MRB/Sustainment

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA
•$191,000 - $254,000

About The Position

The Air Dominance and Strike Aerostructures Engineering Team designs and analyzes advanced structural parts for Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms. The team owns the full development lifecycle, from conceptual through detailed design and analysis of primary and secondary structures, developing high-performance, resilient, and scalable mechanical systems for complex, contested environments. The Engineer, Manager - MRB/Sustainment will lead and grow a team of MRB analysis and sustainment design engineers. The role is accountable for the end-to-end health of the MRB system, from non-conformance intake and structural substantiation through repair drawing release and production closure, while ensuring schedule, quality, and airworthiness requirements are met. The manager will establish technical standards, review complex dispositions and repair designs, develop team members, improve MRB processes, and coordinate with cross-functional partners to support production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in aerospace structural analysis, design, or liaison engineering, including direct MRB or non-conformance disposition experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading or managing engineers, either as a people manager or in a senior technical leadership capacity.
  • Strong understanding of structural substantiation, including static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance, and structural repair design for metallic and composite structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical standards and review work across analysis and design disciplines.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills and ability to represent the team to Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, and senior engineering leadership.
  • Self-driven, with strong autonomy and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to vendors, production, and test sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior MRB signature or delegated authority on a production aerospace program.
  • Experience establishing or scaling an MRB function in a high-rate or rapidly scaling production environment.
  • Familiarity with military airworthiness and structural substantiation standards such as MIL-HDBK-5 and MIL-STD-1530.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as NASTRAN or equivalent, and CAD or repair drawing tools such as Siemens NX or equivalent.
  • Background in design-for-manufacturability, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement for complex assemblies.
  • Broad experience across a range of aircraft or missile programs.
  • Hands-on experience in an aircraft manufacturing or depot repair environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of MRB analysis and sustainment design engineers responsible for dispositioning non-conformances and releasing repair solutions for metallic and composite structures on Group 5 air vehicles.
  • Own the MRB system from non-conformance intake and structural substantiation through repair drawing release and production closure, ensuring schedule, quality, and airworthiness requirements are met.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop analysis and design engineers, including establishing a path to MRB signature or delegated authority for team members.
  • Set technical standards and review complex or high-risk dispositions and repair designs; act as an escalation point for difficult non-conformances.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, Materials & Processes, and Program Management to prioritize work, resolve cross-functional blockers, and protect production schedules.
  • Drive root cause and corrective action programs to reduce recurring non-conformances, rework, and scrap across the production line.
  • Build and continuously improve MRB processes, tools, and standard work to scale the team as production rates increase.
  • Report team throughput, non-conformance trends, and open risks to engineering and program leadership.
  • Balance workload across analysis and design disciplines and ensure close hand-offs between disposition and repair drawing release.
  • Travel to vendors, production, and test sites as needed to support hardware builds and troubleshoot issues directly, with travel of up to 25%.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees.
