Engineer - Life Safety Systems & Telecom (NY)

Micron Technology•Clay, NY
•$82,000 - $169,000

About The Position

Micron Technology’s US Construction Engineering team delivers facility infrastructure for semiconductor manufacturing, collaborating with engineering, construction, facilities, and third-party vendors to develop safe, reliable, and maintainable high-tech facilities. The team works on engineering problems and supports large-scale construction projects from conception through commissioning and operation. The Fire Alarm / Life Safety Systems Engineer provides technical leadership for life-safety systems across construction projects. The role independently evaluates developments, resolves integration and field issues, and supports systems from the beginning of construction through turnover. It combines technical engineering, field experience, cross-functional collaboration, and digital tools to deliver safe, code-compliant, construction-ready systems.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of applicable engineering experience, including a minimum of 2 years involving fire alarm, fire detection, or life-safety systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 101, IFC, IBC, and applicable local fire and building codes, and experience translating requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience reviewing or developing fire alarm plans, sequences of operation, cause-and-effect documentation, engineering submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
  • Experience evaluating battery calculations, power-supply loading, notification-appliance voltage drop, system loading and capacity, access control, and suppression systems.
  • Experience supporting installation, functional testing, commissioning, acceptance testing, and turnover, and ability to independently explain technical recommendations and decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fire alarm and life-safety systems in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, industrial manufacturing, or other crucial facilities, including cleanroom or hazardous-production environments.
  • Experience with EST/Edwards fire alarm systems, Fireworks graphical workstations, VESDA/HSSD systems, and work involving process equipment or facility-control systems.
  • Experience developing or evaluating cause-and-effect matrices, system interlocks, impairment plans, phased cutovers, production-impact mitigation, and system restoration in operating facilities.
  • NICET Level II certification or above.
  • Experience using AI-assisted and digital engineering tools to review technical information, identify issues and patterns, support build assessments, develop documentation, improve coordination, and increase engineering workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to consultants, contractors, and vendors developing fire alarm, fire detection, emergency communication, and related life-safety systems.
  • Examine drawings, specifications, riser and wiring diagrams, device layouts, calculations, sequences of operation, cause-and-effect documentation, submittals, RFIs, redlines, and record drawings.
  • Evaluate builds for code compliance, constructability, maintainability, operability, system capacity, and integration with sprinkler, HVAC, smoke control, elevators, access control, suppression, process equipment, and facility-control systems.
  • Coordinate and resolve technical issues with construction teams, vendors, Facilities Operations, EHS/fire protection, engineering disciplines, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Support installation, functional and acceptance testing, commissioning, issue resolution, impairment planning, phased cutovers, system recovery, and turnover while tracking technical risks.

Benefits

  • Choice of medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Income-protection benefit programs for illness or injury.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses, and equity.
