About The Position

Kirby Building Systems, a Nucor company, is seeking a Design Engineer Intern to join their team. This paid internship offers hands-on design engineering experience within a collaborative and innovative culture. The intern will learn the responsibilities of a full-time design engineer and assist the Engineering Department with production-related projects. Requirements

High School or General Equivalency Diploma
Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
Proficient in verbal and written communication in English.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs; candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

Training or experience with statics, structural analysis, and steel design
Training or experience with CAD software
Degree emphasis in Structures
Leadership experience within clubs or organizations

Responsibilities

Acquire invaluable experience supporting the role of a full-time design engineer while actively contributing to a variety of production-related projects within the Engineering Department.
Determine building loads and intricately trace load paths through diverse structures, refining understanding of structural dynamics and engineering principles.
Operate proprietary design software to effectively execute design tasks with precision and efficiency.
Collaborate with professionals to develop structurally sound and economically viable components that uphold the company's commitment to safety and excellence.
Work closely with diverse teams to fabricate high-quality products tailored to meet customer needs.
Actively participate in team initiatives and embrace opportunities for skill enhancement.
