About The Position

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. DOTD is seeking an Engineer Intern Applicant – Engineer Intern 2 to support transportation projects and programs. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews. No prior engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series. Positions are located in the above-listed Parishes, and reports to Engineer Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation.
  • Any offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree.
  • If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation.
  • The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work related to construction project delivery, field engineering, or construction oversight.
  • Review plans, specifications, estimates, construction documentation, and project records.
  • Monitor or assist with review of contractor work for compliance with DOTD standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, project engineers, inspectors, consultants, and internal DOTD staff.
  • Review quantities, documentation, payments, work zone information, or project-related materials as assigned.
  • Support construction certification, eConstruction, fabrication, field documentation, or final audit activities.
  • Assist with resolving construction-related issues, technical questions, or project delivery concerns.
  • Support emergency or disaster response activities as needed.
