About The Position

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. DOTD is seeking an Engineer to support transportation projects and programs through roadway design, project development, plan preparation, geometric design, engineering estimates, and technical support for transportation improvement projects. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews. No prior engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series. Positions are located in New Orleans, and report to the Engineer 6.

Requirements

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

Responsibilities

Performs or assists with roadway design and project development activities.
Prepares, reviews, or edits roadway plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, and design documentation.
Supports geometric design, plan development, design studies, or transportation improvement projects.
Coordinates with project teams, consultants, districts, utility representatives, and other stakeholders.
Reviews project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with DOTD standards and procedures.
Uses engineering software and design tools to support project development.
Provides technical assistance related to roadway design, project delivery, or plan review.
Supports emergency or disaster response activities as needed.
