About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting the Project Engineer (Engineer 6) or as a Project Engineer as determined by District staff needs. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position. Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board.
Requirements
- Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Nice To Haves
- Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
- Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
- Two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Assists Project Engineer (Engineer 6) with management of Construction unit(s).
- Assign technicians and equipment to projects.
- Serves as project manager over more complex projects.
- Functionally supervises staff assigned to project.
- Attend meetings associated with projects such as plan-in-hands or pre-construction conferences.
- May represent Project Engineer at said same meetings.
- Review preliminary plans and make recommendations for construction.
- May lead survey parties to perform layout work or obtain field information for project office or other sections.
- Enhances technical and management skills through participation in continuing education seminars or courses.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
