This role involves analyzing and assessing complex DER distribution system interconnections and new customer connections to the distribution system at numerous voltage levels. The engineer will document and communicate results and recommendations through data interpretation, report writing, and summary presentations. A key responsibility is developing distribution system power flow models using CYME Software for studying the interconnection of generation and storage, adhering to Avangrid Distribution Planning Guides. The position requires independent analysis, review of peer engineers' and consultants' work, and providing guidance on Distribution Planning issues. A thorough understanding of various planning criteria, guidelines, standards (e.g., AVANGRID Distribution Planning Criteria, IEEE Standards, ANSI Standards, DER Interconnection Standards and Guidelines), and analysis software packages (CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, ASPEN) is essential. Familiarity with Distribution Planning tools like GIS (ArcFM), SAP, and Load Data systems is also required. The role encourages innovation to improve distribution planning precision and efficiency, and seeks individuals who can develop subject matter expert skills to mentor and support the team. Additional tasks include representing the department on industry committees, serving on cross-functional teams, and communicating analysis results to stakeholders. The role may also involve assisting during storm restoration efforts.
