About The Position

The Engineer-in-Training II position is part of the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT) Region 2 South Engineering program, which plans, designs, constructs, and maintains Colorado's highway transportation system. The position supports transportation project development and delivery through engineering design, construction management, and inspection, while ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines, standards, and regulations. Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer or Project Engineer, the Engineer-in-Training applies engineering principles and technical judgment to a variety of highway construction and design projects and takes on increasing responsibility while developing toward Professional Engineer licensure. The role prepares engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates; assists with project and consultant contract administration; reviews consultant work; and supports construction inspection and oversight. The schedule is primarily 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility to support work-life balance while meeting business needs. In-office attendance is initially required during the probationary period, with the potential for a hybrid schedule afterward. Approximately 10% of the work is in the field and 90% in the office. Travel during work hours throughout Region 2 is required, as are occasional overnight and out-of-town trips within Colorado. The role requires operating CDOT vehicles and includes exposure to varied weather and temperatures and occasional physical effort to move objects.
