Engineer III - Systems
About The Position
The Systems Engineer III (Senior) designs, implements, and maintains enterprise server platforms across Windows Server and/or Linux and Red Hat environments, integrating hybrid cloud technologies to support scalability and modernization. The role emphasizes operational excellence, lifecycle management, automation, and advanced troubleshooting within established standards and architectures. The engineer also provides technical guidance and informal mentorship to Level II and Level I engineers. Core domains include server operating systems, Active Directory/Entra ID and Group Policy, certificate management, patching and deployments, automation and scripting, hybrid cloud integration (Azure preferred), and enterprise configuration management. The position is hybrid and requires residence in Arizona. It may include on-call participation and after-hours changes when required.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience in Windows and/or Linux/Red Hat administration or engineering roles.
- At least 2 years of automation and/or scripting experience, such as PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
- A bachelor's degree in technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience; 8 years of progressive related experience may substitute for a degree.
- Residence in Arizona.

Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, implement, support, and maintain Windows and/or Linux server platforms and hybrid cloud integrations in alignment with established architectures and lifecycle standards.
- Administer Active Directory/Entra ID and Group Policy.
- Support connectivity, identity, and workload integration between on-premises and cloud environments.
- Execute patching, firmware updates, and version upgrades for server platforms and hybrid cloud components.
- Develop and maintain scripts and workflows for provisioning, configuration, and compliance.
- Participate in incident triage and resolution and provide technical input for root cause analysis.
- Manage the enterprise certificate lifecycle, including generation, renewal, and compliance with security standards.
- Apply hardening baselines, implement role-based access control, and follow least-privilege principles in alignment with information security guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance and informal mentorship to junior engineers.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across server and hybrid cloud platforms, lead root cause analysis and resolution for escalated incidents, and provide advanced technical support to stakeholders and end users.
- Manage small-scale projects from initiation through completion and contribute to platform enhancements.
- Participate in assessments of emerging technologies and recommend improvements to business practices.
- Contribute to solution design discussions and prepare technical documentation, diagrams, workflows, run books, and configuration guides.
- Assist in developing training materials and knowledge transfer sessions for support staff.
- Follow change management, documentation, project, quality assurance, release, and organizational standards; execute test plans and validate changes.
- Document interface changes, suggest operational improvements, and create Service Desk procedures to improve First Call Resolution.
- Implement approved action plans for system changes and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams, peers, vendors, and business units to resolve technical issues, optimize processes, and deliver integrated solutions.
- Validate data integrity for interfaces and conversions.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
- Open and manage vendor support cases and assist with troubleshooting and escalation.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including on-call participation and after-hours changes when required.
