Engineer III - MacOS Sensor (Remote)

CrowdStrike•Redmond, WA
•Remote

About The Position

CrowdStrike’s Content Development team researches and develops capabilities for the Falcon endpoint sensor, focusing on operating-system security and internals across supported platforms. The team works to expose useful data to the sensor in a supportable and performant manner, with projects that can involve months of research, planning, coordination, and implementation. The Engineer III researches techniques for detecting malicious activity on macOS and turns them into production-level solutions for deployment in the endpoint sensor. This role combines research and implementation, including collaboration with macOS engineers and reuse of code shared with Windows and Linux sensor platforms. The engineer serves as a subject matter expert and resource for colleagues across teams, drives independent initiatives, and contributes throughout the development lifecycle—from concept and design through implementation, release, and post-release support. The role emphasizes quality, ownership, and reliable production software.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in either reverse engineering, threat detection, and malware analysis, with familiarity with on-device development; or designing, building, and delivering high-quality software in Swift, C/C++, or Objective-C, with familiarity or a proven interest in security.
  • Solid knowledge of macOS internals, including processes, storage, networking, and memory management, as well as relevant components, APIs, and frameworks.
  • Ability to develop high-quality Swift and/or C/C++ code that meets high-concurrency requirements and makes strong use of multithreading.
  • Ability to develop reliable, high-performance code that meets detailed low-level operating requirements, including memory usage, efficient performance, and standards conformance.
  • Ability to deliver enterprise software while collaborating across functions, including CI, testing, debugging, performance tracing, release management, big-data telemetry analysis, and issue handling.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a distributed team and clearly articulate thoughts and designs to peers and upper management.
  • Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity or experience with macOS security-related frameworks and events, such as Endpoint Security and Network Extension, and recent familiarity with macOS APIs, SDKs, and OS developments.
  • Prior security experience, particularly in endpoint threat detection or sensor development, including on Linux or Windows.
  • Familiarity with AI and recent developments in the macOS threat landscape.
  • Experience developing and delivering 24/7 enterprise endpoint software.
  • Experience with Python and scripting for research, tooling, and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build detection logic and systems used to detect cyber attackers and stop breaches.
  • Research techniques for detecting malicious activity, including reverse engineering and/or big-data analysis.
  • Own features from design through delivery and develop them into production-level solutions for deployment in the endpoint sensor.
  • Extend the existing codebase using Swift, C++, Python, and other appropriate tools and domain-specific languages.
  • Apply secure coding, testing, debugging, performance, code review, CI/CD, and OS-internals best practices to produce fast, reliable sensor code.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team distributed across geographies.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot product issues reported by customers.
  • Take ownership of individual deliverables and be accountable for them.
  • Take on other projects as assigned.
