Puget Sound Energy’s Substation Controls Design team is seeking an engineer to design control systems for substations operating at 12 kV and above, including typical transmission voltages of 115 kV and 230 kV. PSE defines control systems as the wiring for switchyard equipment, the control house, and control panel devices up to the protective relays. The role also provides field support and develops project construction drawings, including detailed schematics and wiring diagrams, to integrate relays and other electrical components that operate, protect, and automate the electrical grid. Projects may include brownfield substation equipment upgrades, SCADA integration, greenfield substation design, and emergency equipment replacements. The position is part of the Substation Engineering group and coordinates with System Protection and Relay Engineering and Substation Design. Under minimal supervision from more experienced staff, the engineer prepares engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and evaluations. The engineer supports project teams working to reinforce energy delivery or power generation systems and develops technical and managerial knowledge of PSE processes and systems. The role supports emergency response operations when needed and upholds safety, ethical conduct, and regulatory compliance requirements. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment drug screening, including screening for marijuana and marijuana metabolites.
