Puget Sound Energy is hiring an Engineer I to join its Substation Controls Design team within the Substation Engineering group. The role designs control systems for substations operating at 12 kV and above, including typical transmission levels of 115 kV and 230 kV. PSE defines substation control systems as the wiring for switchyard equipment, control houses, and control panel devices up to the protective relays. The engineer also provides field support and develops project construction drawings, including detailed schematics and wiring diagrams, to integrate relays and other electrical components that operate, protect, and automate the electrical grid. Projects may include brownfield equipment upgrades, SCADA integration, greenfield substation design, and emergency equipment replacements. The role coordinates closely with System Protection and Relay Engineering, Operations Support, and Substation Design teams. Under direct supervision from more experienced staff, the engineer conducts simple analyses and supports the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and related evaluations. Assignments are intended to develop professional knowledge and abilities through the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. The position may support emergency response operations as needed. The role upholds PSE safety standards, supports a culture of total safety, conducts business honestly and ethically in accordance with the company’s core values and Code of Conduct, and performs duties in compliance with regulatory obligations. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment drug screening, including screening for marijuana and marijuana metabolites. Work arrangements will be discussed during the interview process.
