About The Position

The Engineer II, Product Development Tooling Programmer is part of Air Manufacturing Innovation’s Tooling Engineering team and reports to the tooling engineering leader. The role partners with the Tool Shop, Tooling Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Process Engineering to deliver reliable, production-ready machining solutions. The programmer translates complex tooling designs into safe, efficient, and repeatable machining processes, including machining strategies for thermoforming molds and downstream tooling. The role owns complex programming assignments, supports production readiness, resolves machining problems, improves quality and cycle time, and helps establish consistent programming practices across Tooling Engineering and the Tool Shop. The successful candidate brings advanced Siemens NX CAM or comparable CAM programming capability, practical knowledge of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining, and expertise in machining methods, cutting tools, materials, fixtures, workholding, and design for manufacturability. The role requires structured problem solving, disciplined revision-controlled documentation, clear communication, and the judgment to identify and escalate technical risks. The programmer works independently on complex assignments while collaborating across engineering and shop-floor teams, and helps share technical knowledge and mentor less-experienced programmers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience, or training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of directly relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience developing complex CNC programs and machining strategies in Siemens NX CAM or a comparable CAM environment.
  • Strong knowledge of machining methods, cutting tools, materials, fixtures, workholding, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Experience troubleshooting machining and first-pass quality issues using structured root-cause and corrective-action methods.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and maintain revision-controlled documentation.
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments and collaborate in a manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Teamcenter experience.
  • Experience with multiple CNC controllers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, verify, release, and maintain complex CAM programs, toolpaths, setup information, and machining strategies for thermoforming molds and downstream tooling.
  • Review models and drawings with Tooling Engineering and Design Engineering, providing early input on manufacturability, tooling, workholding, and process considerations.
  • Troubleshoot programming, machining, tooling, equipment, and first-pass quality issues in direct collaboration with the Tool Shop.
  • Optimize cutting tools, feeds and speeds, machining sequence, workholding, and cycle time while protecting safety, quality, and repeatability.
  • Lead or contribute to root-cause corrective action and continuous-improvement work, documenting findings, actions, and sustained results.
  • Create and improve programming standards for 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, templates, revision-control practices, and technical documentation.
  • Help prioritize the programming queue, communicate delivery risks, and support production readiness.
  • Mentor Engineer I programmers and share technical knowledge.
