Engineer II FPGA Verification (Onsite)

RTX•El Segundo, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

RTX’s Collins Aerospace is seeking an FPGA Verification Engineer II for its Applied Research and Technology Microelectronics Technology team. The role contributes to developing defense solutions across Mission Systems by applying chip-level verification methods to high-performance digital FPGAs. The position is onsite in Fullerton, California, and requires an active, transferable U.S. government Secret clearance before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required. The engineer will design verification environments using SystemVerilog and UVM/UVM-F, create written test plans and test cases, track code and functional coverage, and develop testbenches to verify RTL blocks using VHDL or SystemVerilog. The role also involves collaborating with design engineers on FPGA integration and validation, providing technical guidance to junior engineers, potentially leading project verification activities, and contributing estimates for new program pursuits. The engineer will work with an experienced team and use technologies developed internally and by external vendors.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required before the start date; current Secret clearance must be active on day one.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Demonstrated professional experience developing and simulating RTL designs using VHDL and/or Verilog in an FPGA or development environment.
  • Ability to design, implement, and execute verification testbenches for RTL blocks using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
  • Working knowledge of chip-level verification methodologies, including constrained-random testing, functional coverage, and assertion-based verification using SystemVerilog.
  • Proficiency with revision-control concepts and tools such as Git or Subversion.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience with high-speed digital interfaces and protocols such as DDR, PCIe, or Ethernet.
  • Experience with FPGA lab validation and debugging using standard lab equipment.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard FPGA simulation and synthesis tools such as QuestaSim, Synplify, Quartus, or Vivado.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or mission-critical systems.
  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux environments, scripting, or software development.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design verification environments using SystemVerilog with UVM/UVM-F.
  • Create written test plans and test cases, and track code coverage and functional coverage.
  • Develop testbenches to verify RTL blocks using VHDL or SystemVerilog.
  • Collaborate with design engineers on the integration and validation of FPGA solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • May lead project verification teams by breaking down work, planning activities, and reporting status.
  • Contribute engineering estimates for new program pursuits.
