About The Position

This is a temporary position with the Department of Environmental Quality, located at 127 Cardinal Drive, Wilmington - New Hanover County. The position will primarily work in the Express Post Construction State Stormwater Program to perform professional engineering work by reviewing express requests and applications to evaluate projects for compliance and eligibility. Temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time. Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporary skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agency's culture, process, procedures, and potential learning opportunities can provide valuable experience to those who may seek permanent employment with the state.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be fully qualified for the job.
• May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional engineering work by reviewing express requests and applications to evaluate projects for compliance and eligibility.
• Provide technical assistance to applicants, consultants, the regulated community, and the general public on projects and inquiries through meetings, phone calls, and written communication.
• Coordinate with internal staff, federal, state, local agencies, and diverse stakeholder groups during the application review process.
