Engineer I - Overnight Shift
About The Position
The Engineer performs general maintenance work to ensure that the hotel’s physical plant meets quality and safety standards. The role cares for the hotel building, equipment, and grounds, performing maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance throughout the property. Duties include painting, staining, varnishing, repairing surfaces and finishes, and completing other minor repairs or preventative maintenance as needed. The Engineer also ensures assigned equipment is ready for the following day’s work and supports safe, consistent hotel operations in accordance with applicable regulations, brand standards, and local procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance throughout the hotel, including its building, equipment, and grounds.
- Paint, stain, and varnish using brushes and rollers.
- Repair surfaces, plaster, trim, and sheetrock; sand, sandblast, or burn off old finishes as needed.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders as needed.
- Mix and match paint, requisition supplies, refinish furniture, and hang or repair wallpaper and vinyl as needed.
- Perform other minor maintenance and repairs or preventative maintenance duties as needed.
- Ensure assigned equipment is prepared and operational for the following day’s work.
- Follow federal, state, and local safety and compliance regulations, brand standards, and local policies and procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment to a supervisor.
- Educate and train hotel staff in the safe and proper use of equipment when needed.
- Protect inventory and assets, replenish supplies in a timely and efficient manner, and minimize waste.
- Respond courteously and promptly to guest questions, complaints, and requests.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
