About The Position

We are seeking an Engineer I to support the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of power and utility-related systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer with a background in Mechanical, Civil, or General Engineering. The role will support engineering design, cost estimates, construction specifications, contractor reviews, material estimating, and field/construction activities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, General Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
0–3 years of related engineering experience.
Introductory knowledge of engineering principles and design practices.
Basic problem-solving and analytical skills.
Familiarity with engineering design software and technical applications.
Ability to follow established procedures and work under engineering supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
Ability to work effectively with engineering teams, plant staff, contractors, and vendors.

Nice To Haves

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
Utility, energy, power generation, natural gas, construction, or industrial engineering experience.
Experience with engineering design packages, specifications, estimates, or construction support.
Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.

Responsibilities

Apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to support design and construction projects.
Develop design options and assist with engineering evaluations.
Support preparation of cost estimates and material estimates.
Prepare and transmit construction packages, specifications, and supporting documentation.
Review contractor-developed designs, cost estimates, and construction packages for quality and compliance.
Support development and application of engineering design standards and criteria.
Assist construction and maintenance teams with day-to-day engineering support.
Coordinate with plant personnel, design engineers, contractors, and vendors.
Learn and apply Southern Company and industry engineering standards.
Support planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance activities.
Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and engineering best practices.
Identify technical issues and assist with developing practical solutions.
