Engineer I, Mechanical

Mitsubishi Electric US•Suwanee, GA

About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer is a key cross-functional project team member who provides engineering support across design activities to help achieve project objectives. The role develops complex 3D models, large assemblies, and fabrication drawings in PTC Creo 7.0, from concept development through final release. The engineer works directly with R&D, Manufacturing, and external vendors to resolve design and fabrication issues, and designs components or systems for new products with manufacturing ease and high quality in mind. The position creates designs for basic to moderately complex projects by evaluating product specifications, performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and engineering principles. It develops parts, assemblies, and fixtures from scratch or sketches, investigates factors such as materials, manufacturing capability, interchangeability, cost, strength-to-weight efficiency, and intellectual property, and prepares and reviews tooling and production drawings for accuracy and compliance. The engineer also supports existing products through sustaining engineering, including value analysis/value engineering (VAVE), quality, and product improvements. The role requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, experience with Creo 3D CAD for design and manufacturing, and the ability to travel internationally as needed. Up to 10% international travel may be required. The stated pay range is $72,800 to $100,000 per year at commencement of employment, with actual pay dependent on individualized factors. The total compensation package may include incentives and benefits, including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related field.
  • Experience with Creo 3D CAD for design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with Creo modules for piping, cabling, surfacing, sheet metal, and assembly modeling.
  • Strong Pro E/Creo design experience involving sheet metal, piping, wiring/cabling, and top-down assembly design.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills.
  • Self-directed approach to project goals.
  • Ability to establish working relationships within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of product design experience, preferably in a team-based environment.
  • Familiarity with component manufacturing techniques including sheet metal bending, metal stamping, fabrication, and injection molding.
  • Familiarity with Top-Down Design (TDD) methodologies and model-centric design.
  • Experience with Windchill 12.0.

  • HVAC experience.

Responsibilities

  • Create designs for basic to moderately complex projects by analyzing product specifications, performance requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and applying engineering principles and established design tools.
  • Design parts, assemblies, and fixtures from scratch or sketches with minimal instructions or direction.
  • Investigate manufacturing capability, suitable materials, component interchangeability, cost, strength-to-weight efficiency, and intellectual property considerations.
  • Lead or participate in design reviews and technical meetings with support from appropriate functional areas.
  • Develop conceptual layouts that capture product specifications and assembly or component interface, size, location, and placement.
  • Prepare and review tooling and production-release drawings, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies and recommend revisions and improvements.
  • Manage CAD-related files and data and follow established engineering practices, standards, tools, and documentation methods.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for existing products, including VAVE, quality, and product improvements.
  • Contribute to inventions, new designs, or techniques.
