About The Position

This position performs professional engineering work for the Electric Line Department in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the City's electric transmission and distribution system. Progression towards more autonomous work performance will be expected as experience is gained in electric line design. Duties will be dependent upon departmental workload and may include any or all of the duties described below. This position may supervise Intern employees.

Requirements

An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required.
Electrical engineering design experience is preferred.
A minimum of two years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience is required.
In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible design experience.
A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required.
A minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience is required.
In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of six years of recent progressively responsible design experience.
A valid Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
A minimum of eight years of recent applicable and progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design OR a minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design and a minimum of seven years of other recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.
Design of line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.
Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities.
Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, street lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects.
Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects.
