About The Position

Georgia Power is seeking an experienced geologist, engineer, or scientist to join our Environmental Affairs team in Atlanta, Georgia. This role will help support ash pond closure by tracking the status of engineering controls and associated systems, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and engaging with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) to maintain compliance with regulatory obligations related to closure, post-closure care, and full-scale groundwater corrective action. The ideal candidate is meticulous, intellectually curious, and motivated to work in the coal combustion residuals (CCR) rule compliance space. This position will collaborate closely with internal technical and regulatory teams, third-party consultants, regulators, vendors, and industry experts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years working in groundwater, groundwater remediation, or environmental compliance in solid waste or CCR.
  • Experience in Georgia with CCR Solid Waste Permitting or CCR Rule compliance is required.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills.
  • Experience with mechanical systems (air compressor, pump maintenance, water conveyance, telemetry, transducers, etc.).
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, groundwater corrective action, project management, and mentoring and developing others.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in geology, engineering, or science (biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Track, document, and evaluate operational status and performance of engineering measures at CCR units.
  • Manage semiannual and annual regulatory reporting for system performance and effectiveness.
  • Maintain instrumentation supporting corrective action systems and engineering measures.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, potentiometric surface tracking, and groundwater model updates with internal teams, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Support compliance with applicable EPD regulations, CCR permit conditions, and closure and post-closure care requirements.
  • Develop and maintain operation and maintenance procedures, resiliency protocols, and implementation guidance.
  • Support pilot testing and technology evaluation for corrective actions to support groundwater remediation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify and implement practical, cost-effective environmental solutions.
