About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is hiring an Electrical Engineer – Level 2 for its Electrical Power Subsystem team in Dulles, Virginia. The position supports Defense and National Security spacecraft programs and contributes to the architecture, manufacturing, testing, and mission-control operation of spacecraft power generation, storage, and distribution systems. The role is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommuting. It follows a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off, and requires some night and weekend shift work as well as periodic domestic and international travel. Travel is approximately 10%. The position requires an active SCI clearance at application and is contingent on obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable period, as determined by the company. The engineer is responsible for technical, cost, and schedule performance of the spacecraft electrical power subsystem. Work includes analyzing and architecting power avionics, batteries, and solar arrays; conducting technical trades and engineering analyses; managing subsystem requirements; supporting integration and testing and post-launch mission operations; and overseeing subcontractor technical and project performance. The engineer also prepares analysis material for design reviews and customer meetings, investigates ground failures and in-orbit anomalies, and performs earned-value reporting for a cost account. The role is suited to an early-career electrical engineer with a solid electrical engineering foundation. Familiarity or introductory knowledge of lithium-ion batteries, solar arrays, power regulation and conditioning circuitry, electrical testing, and manufacturing processes is beneficial. Leadership, customer service, budget management, and a self-directed work ethic are preferred qualities.
