About The Position

This position is for Nuclear Engineering department E86 for the Ford Class Carrier (CVN), Virginia Class (VCS) and Columbia Class (CLB) programs. Specifically, this position is hands-on waterfront engineering support and oversight on Reactor Plant and Propulsion Plant Systems with an electrical background on 2nd shift. A successful candidate will possess analytical and problem solving skills to resolve technical issues which arise during construction. The individual shall have the communication and relational skills to interface and discuss technical issues with technical and non-technical personnel as well as government representatives, customers and vendors. In addition, the candidate will be willing to actively work on the waterfront to support onsite inspections of problems and provide support to trades during construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs and various NNS shipbuilding programs (i.e. DDMS, SAP, i2, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CVN and/or VCS Rx I&C and other propulsion plant electrical systems is prefered.
  • A comprehensive understanding of system test processes in a construction environment and experience with ship construction processes.
  • Experience with the procurement process and vendor liabilities (i.e. VIRs, VQs and QNs) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams of personnel with varying backgrounds and experience levels.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and train level 1 and 2 engineers as well as lead teams of personnel with varying backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Performing onsite inspections of construction issues that arise during construction in support of resolving Technical Work Documents (eIRs, ERs, etc).
  • Support material issue resolution through answering of QNs, VIRs, VQs.
  • Using technical writing skills to develop, review and approve technical work instruction/procedures (SCNIs, SCNPs, CCPIs, CCPPs).
  • Maintain and approve work instructions such as procedures and troubleshooting paperwork.
  • Collaborating with peer engineers, construction management and craftsmen on a daily basis.
  • Support production meetings on behalf of engineering in order to support timely resolutions and provide engineering insight on construction issues.
