This role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. The engineer will design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Specifically, this position supports diesel generator electrical systems and generator control systems for the GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carriers. The responsibilities include troubleshooting operational fleet and new construction issues, providing technical support for new unit procurement, approving deliverables, maintaining technical ordering requirements and component technical manuals, and developing field change packages. Additionally, the role requires lifecycle design management, including reviewing maintenance requirements, developing field change proposals, documenting drawings and design bases, managing parts catalogs and obsolescence, and implementing sustainability and design improvement initiatives. For the generator control system, the engineer will collaborate with vendors to design and develop a new system to replace the legacy system for future carriers. The team reports to the Machinery section of the GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carrier propulsion and reactor engineering planning yard (PREPY).
