About The Position

Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) is seeking an Engineer to join their team in Thief River Falls, MN. This role involves designing water resource and infrastructure projects such as flood control measures, drainage solutions, levees, and hydraulic structures using AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, prepare design computations and reports, assist in preparing plans and permit applications, support construction activities, and communicate effectively with clients and project teams. HEI is willing to provide training for candidates with experience in AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, or HEC-HMS software and is particularly interested in those pursuing Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is desired, and experience with Civil 3D is a bonus.
  • A strong interest in solving problems that directly impact local communities.
  • Someone who excels at critical thinking, has a keen eye for detail, and communicates effectively.
  • A self-motivated team player with a positive attitude and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, or HEC-HMS software is desired (training will be provided).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Civil 3D
  • Interest in pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam to achieve Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS to design water resource and infrastructure projects such as flood control measures, drainage solutions, levees, and hydraulic structures.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary teams to integrate creative solutions into project designs.
  • Prepare design computations, reports, and quantity estimates under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Assist in preparing plans, specifications, and permit applications.
  • Support construction activities, including on-site observation and coordination, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project teams, contributing innovative ideas and insights.
