About The Position

Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join their team in Aberdeen, SD. This role is ideal for a civil engineer who is looking to explore their passion within the field, particularly in water resources. HEI is a full-service consulting firm specializing in civil engineering, surveying, environmental, and technology solutions across the Midwest. The Water Resources team engages in diverse projects such as the design of dams, levees, lakes, streams, stormwater management systems, flood risk reduction strategies, watershed planning, and other hydraulic structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid critical thinking skills, along with attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude under pressure, strong team player, responsible, and self-motivated.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States permanently without the requirement of sponsorship at any point in the future.
  • Valid Driver’s License and in good standing with periodic travel necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Autocad Civil 3D
  • Experience in ArcGIS
  • Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software

Responsibilities

  • Effectively use AutoCAD Civil 3D to design various project features and ArcGIS for watershed planning.
  • Prepare design computations and quantity estimates under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Assist in preparation of reports, specifications, plan creation, and permit applications.
  • Interface with CAD and GIS designers and coordinate with other engineering departments on complex multi-discipline projects.
  • Assist in client contact and communications.
  • May include onsite construction observation and other field work duties including surveying, stream assessments, and wetland delineations.
