About The Position

The 2027 Engineer Development Rotation Program - Systems Engineer I New College Grad position is part of the Fusion team within the Applied Materials Semiconductor Equipment business unit, located in Gloucester, MA. This rotational training program is designed to attract, assimilate, grow, and retain talented engineers entering the industry. Over the first two years, Fusion engineers will participate in a series of rotational assignments, including three or four unique engineering departmental assignments and one manufacturing department assignment. These rotations aim to help members and managers identify the best full-time position for the engineer at Applied Materials. The program starts in the summer of 2027 and is conducted on-site at the Gloucester, MA campus. As a Systems Engineer, the role involves designing, integrating, and optimizing complex systems for the semiconductor industry. This requires expertise in systems thinking and problem-solving, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the development of advanced solutions for intricate processes. Responsibilities include analyzing requirements, defining system architectures, conducting testing, ensuring seamless integration of subsystems, identifying and mitigating risks, and maintaining high-quality standards.

Requirements

  • Graduating with a Bachelor’s (or Master's) degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field
  • Must be in good academic standing with a preferred GPA above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Able to solve complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset who thrives in a results-driven culture

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine assignments in the entry level to a professional job progression.
  • Typically has knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Develops competence by performing structured work assignments.
  • Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems.
  • Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from others.
  • Write the portion of the system engineering specification pertaining to field of technical expertise.
  • Work on system engineering projects that have a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, physics, algorithms and software design utilizing expertise in technical area of specialty.
  • Perform tests and provide feedback to product engineering and software on new designs and ongoing engineering improvements.
  • Problem identification and troubleshooting engineering problems in field of technical expertise, including serviceability and manufacturability.
  • Work with System Integration during the assembly and final testing of all products.
  • Become familiar with the MRS and assure that all new designs of hardware and software are reliable, safe, user friendly and maintainable by the field.
  • Review all external equipment interfaces, analyze architecture ideas, and insure they are up to date and documented.
