About the position
The Mobile Processor Innovation (MPI) Lab at Samsung Research America is seeking candidates for computational imaging and camera algorithm R&D roles. The lab focuses on using AI technology to enhance the mobile camera experience and develop cutting-edge algorithms and technologies. The successful candidate will contribute to improving user experiences on Samsung Mobile products by creatively applying AI, computational photography, and deep learning techniques. This position offers the opportunity to work on projects that have a direct impact on future Samsung Mobile products and reach millions of users worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Identify areas of differentiation and innovation around mobile camera using AI, computational imaging, computer vision, and deep learning algorithms
- Prototype algorithms in Mat lab, C/C++, Python, on PC and embedded platforms
- Write high-quality prototype code that can be easily integrated into production system software
- Understand the constraints of mobile systems and deliver feasible and efficient algorithms
- Have a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering with 1+ years of experience in computational imaging (preferred) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience in one or more deep learning frameworks
- Hands-on experience in AI pixel processing networks, computational photography applications, multi-frame-multi-camera computational imaging systems, high frame rate processing, image stitching and blending, and image quality understanding
- Hands-on experience with embedded implementation of image processing and computational photography algorithms
- Strong communication skills for effective interactions with R&D management, peer groups, and team members
- Strong algorithm background in image processing and computational imaging
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally
- Familiarity with smartphone and other mobile product development
- Experience with deep learning methods for image processing is a plus
- Understanding of optics and optical systems is a plus
- Experience with computer vision algorithms and vision analytics systems is a plus
- Understanding of inertial sensors and their use for computational imaging is a plus
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering with 1+ yrs. of experience preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in computational imaging
- Experience in one or more deep learning frameworks
- Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: AI pixel processing networks for restoration, semantic segmentation, optical flow / depth estimation, computational photography applications such as HDR, Super Resolution, image denoising/dehazing, multi-frame-multi-camera computational imaging systems, motion-based computational imaging, high frame rate processing, image stitching and blending, image quality understanding and computational optics
- Hands-on experience with embedded implementation of image processing and computational photography algorithms
- Strong communication skills for effective interactions with R&D management as well as peer groups and team members
- Strong algorithm background in image processing and computational imaging
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally
- Familiarity with smartphone and other mobile product development
- Experience with deep learning methods for image processing is a plus
