About The Position

The Business Development Engineer (BDE) is the key link between our customers, our sales team and our internal departments, putting product knowledge and training to use to achieve profitable growth within the assigned territories and accounts. The BDE manages and supports key customers and assigned territories.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering - BSME or EE preferred
  • Sales, Marketing, Applications Engineering experience preferred
  • Self-starter with a customer-friendly approach and a strong work ethic
  • Proven team player who has demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: excellent communication, interpersonal skills, well developed problem-solving skills; solid organizational skills; and the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and able to effectively relate to all levels of an organization.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and to coordinate and prepare major contract proposals.
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to problem identification and a creative approach to resolution.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are mandatory for clear, professional interactions with customers, engineering and sales force.
  • Strong computer skills are a must, to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; SalesForce experience strongly preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mil/aerospace industry, and/or experience with custom designed products involving customer specifications is desired

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, quantifying and acting on new business opportunities via daily interaction with Sales and customers, within the assigned territory.
  • Assisting customers in the application of Rotron products against customer needs. This involves analysis of customer technical requirements, initial product feasibility analysis, and scheduling of tests, as required, to determine the best solution to a customer's requirement.
  • Leading the resolution of technical, product related, issues and questions coming from both internal and external sources against prescribed goals/measures.
  • Supporting bringing opportunities to closure through completion of the negotiation cycle with the assistance and support of the Sales leadership team.
  • Building internal and external networks to establish strong relationships and provide the "voice of the customer" to Company leadership regarding new opportunities, products or services. A key contributor to the growth of strategic accounts and assigned territories.
  • Acting as a liaison between customer’s design team and Rotron Design Engineering, as needed. (Capturing requirements)
  • Assembling the appropriate proposal response team (all functional areas within the business) and coordinating the required reviews and generated responses for all aspects of a response against the established timeframe.
  • Leading the efforts for creating the necessary compliance matrices against technical, contractual and program support requirements, as required.
  • For Project Management functions, being responsible for contract negotiations, product support agreements and managing the larger scope of deliverables as required by the SOW.
  • Developing Marketing materials focused on evaluating and growing target markets and regions. Maintaining the Company market position by providing the necessary intelligence on the marketplace and the competitive situation as to achieve “winning” proposals.
  • Identifying potential areas for process improvements and leading, or participating in, assigned internal project teams to review, assess, measure and implement effective countermeasures.
  • Making periodic trips to customer sites and tradeshows (~20%).
  • Taking responsibility for understanding the Business Management System and how it is applied to the role.
  • Adhering to Health and Safety requirements always.
  • Bringing to the attention of their manager any issues that could potentially affect the business, regardless of how small they may seem at the time.
  • Carrying out all duties within this job description in line with any Company policies and procedures in place at the time.
