Performs activities related to the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers and auxiliary plant equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs activities related to the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers and auxiliary plant equipment. Performs and assumes all responsibilities as the Stationary Engineer including, but not limited to, the following: Operates high-pressure boilers, auxiliary equipment, and controls in an efficient and safe manner. Continuously exercises plant safety in all areas of the power plant. Observes flow meters, gauges, dials and recorders. Starts, stops, adjusts, and regulates the equipment in response to observations and accepted engineering practice. Periodically records readings and abnormal occurrences in the engineering logbook. Checks equipment while in operation and makes adjustments and repairs as necessary to maintain plant operations. Performs chemical test on water samples during shift and records results in order to maintain proper boiler water chemistry. Responsible for performing periodic preventive maintenance, inspections, housekeeping, preservations, repairs to auxiliary equipment, boiler room equipment, and the physical plant spaces. Subject to working alone as boiler plant operator isolated from other buildings. This working environment is subject to high temperatures and noise from operating equipment. Available for shifts other than the ones scheduled, to cover for absence of relief shift, sickness, vacations, and boiler plant maintenance. Records all discrepancies during the after hours in the engineering logbook. Maintains engineer radio and pager at all times. Required to contact Foreman/Chief Engineer for any and all discrepancies related to the Power Plant operations.
