About The Position

This position is responsible for Engine Department support for Texas Speed and Performance. The role involves data input, workflow assistance, communication with team members regarding engine builds, verifying component compatibility, recommending parts substitutions, gathering and staging components, visual inspection, machining, setting bearing clearances, assembling rotating assemblies and short blocks, inspecting assembled components, communicating inventory discrepancies, preparing short blocks for further work or shipping, preparing and maintaining inventory of specific connecting rods, floating between job positions to ensure timely production, maintaining positive working relationships, implementing and enforcing safety procedures, and assisting other departments.

Requirements

  • Dynamic, high-energy individual with a track record as an effective communicator and uses a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the Internal Combustion Engine
  • Be able to spot issues and suggest parts substitutions when needed for a specific application
  • Exceptional Mechanical Abilities
  • Be able to use Measuring Equipment (Mics, Calipers, Bore Gauge, etc...)
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, and general computer skills
  • Must be a highly detailed and organized individual, this is a fast paced, high-volume environment where attention to detail is crucial

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of and experience using Inventory Management Software such as Fishbowl or NetSuite is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Input data received from Work Order/Build Sheets into Manufacturing Production List
  • Help assist workflow by digitizing and utilizing the Manufacturing Production List to communicate with team members and ensure an efficient team-based workflow process
  • Communication with team when a priority/special requirement is needed for an engine build
  • Verify component compatibility of parts listed within Work Order and communicate with Sales Staff when an issue arises or a customer needs contacted
  • Recommend and make parts substitutions when needed and communicate those substitutions with required department team members
  • Gather rotating assembly components and stage for prep, machine work and proper scheduling
  • Visual Inspection of all components from start to finish
  • Final machining/honing of connecting rods
  • Setup proper bearing clearances for connecting rods utilizing the correct bearing choice
  • Proper assembly and fitment of rotating assembly components
  • When applicable, hand clearance components to ensure proper fitment inside engine assembly (ex. clearance pistons for oil squirters or engine blocks for crankshaft counterweights)
  • Gather all components needed for Short Block assembly and inspect that all prior machine work/prep was done properly
  • Again, verify proper components needed are being used. Communicate any changes or errors that arise
  • Assemble short block to specifications listed on Engine Build Sheet (ex. file rings, double check bearing tolerances specified, ensure any special requests have been met)
  • Inspect assembled short block and ensure all measurements meet industry standards and record data onto Engine Build Sheet
  • Communicate inventory discrepancies holding up Work Order processing with required team members, assist where needed
  • Prepare and stage assembled Short Blocks for any additional work needed (ex. Long Blocks and Turnkeys)
  • Prepare, Machine, Package and Maintain Inventory of TSP Drop in H Beam Connecting Rods
  • When needed be able to float between job positions to help prep components and ensure a timely production schedule (ex. weigh out rotating assemblies for balance dept, assist with LS3 crate engines, pull long block/turnkey parts from shipping, answer questions for sales/block dept, engine teardown/inspection)
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with manufacturing personnel and other staff members to support a positive workplace environment.
  • Responsible for implementing and enforcing industry standard safety procedures throughout the block/engine department.
  • Aid other Block, Engine, Balance, Sales and Shipping Dept team members with tasks throughout the day
  • Perform and execute all other duties assigned by direct manager.
