About The Position

Casa Myrna is Greater Boston’s foremost provider of solutions to end domestic and dating violence. The agency operates three residential programs in Boston for survivors and children made homeless by domestic violence and commercial sexual exploitation, a comprehensive range of advocacy and supportive services, and SafeLink, Massachusetts’ statewide 24/7 toll-free domestic violence hotline. Casa Myrna believes that every relationship should be safe and healthy and works to end domestic and dating violence through education, awareness, and prevention. The Engaging Men and Boys Coordinator works predominantly with Black and Latino male-identified youth who have been impacted by domestic, dating, and family violence, including youth who have witnessed abuse in their homes. This position will be part of the Community Advocacy Program team, works closely with the Youth Engagement and Prevention Program, and is supported by a network of youth development and violence prevention professionals in the City of Boston. This position will support Casa Myrna’s prevention efforts by creating brave spaces in Boston for young men and boys to unlearn unhealthy relationship norms while learning how to have healthier relationships. The Coordinator will work from various locations throughout Boston, providing education, mentorship, and group activities to young men. The goal is to create a culture shift and build allies in our community to fight against domestic and dating violence.

Requirements

  • Committed to Casa Myrna’s values and mission of ending domestic and dating violence and commercial exploitation and promoting social justice and social change.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with youth in youth development, social work, counseling, teaching, and/or other advocacy role preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize appropriate, non-judgmental communication techniques when responding to survivors that illustrates sensitivity to their experiences and needs.
  • Ability to work and advocate in a collaborative style with diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic groups, as well as diversity based on ability/disability, sexual orientation, and religion.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic/dating violence, trauma, and abuse, and with marginalized communities, particularly communities of color.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to model healthy boundaries (digital and physical/emotional/etc.) with youth and families.
  • Familiarity with Boston-area community agencies and resources.
  • Maturity, sound judgement, and lived experience in working within social change movements.
  • Demonstrated experience creating curriculum and facilitating groups.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate work at multiple sites; ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong relational and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, crisis management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to take initiative to help carry out the needs of the program for its success.
  • Promote an atmosphere of respect and cooperation; maintain confidentiality regarding program participants.
  • Ability to travel throughout Boston required; access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting surveys and analyzing data is a plus.
  • Strong preference for candidates who identify as a member of a marginalized community as Casa Myrna works to be an inclusive and equitable organization.
  • Fluency in a language other than English strongly preferred. Preference for Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, or Haitian Creole.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize community needs assessment data from the past two years to guide Engaging Men and Boys programming and partnerships.
  • Collect ongoing feedback from youth and community partners to ensure programming remains responsive and relevant.
  • Co-Design and administer pre- and post-surveys and other evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and inform program improvements.
  • Develop program-related curricula, including pre- and post-assessments and train the trainer trainings, in collaboration with the youth program and community partners.
  • Train men in the community to provide group support to young men and boys who have been impacted by domestic violence and increase awareness of and prevention for domestic and dating violence in Boston.
  • Facilitate groups for young men/boys impacted by domestic violence. The group objective is to create and teach the curriculum and build a brave space to support youth.
  • Provide mentorship, emotional support, and crisis intervention as needed for male-identifying youth survivors or witnesses to domestic and dating violence.
  • Provide survivors with referrals to comprehensive supports at Casa Myrna and at other organizations/agencies as appropriate.
  • Host quarterly discussions with community partners to engage men and boys in this work.
  • Work with other agency departments, including Peer Leaders, to facilitate education and awareness activities with youth and staff from youth-serving organizations and schools.
  • Train and support community partner agencies on the intersectionality of community violence, poverty, systemic oppression, multi-generational trauma, and the culture of toxic masculinity.
  • Participate in the development and expansion of the engaging men and boys program. As described above, develop curricula and empowerment/leadership groups for male-identifying youth impacted by domestic and family violence.
  • Build partnerships with community organization to recruit young men into our program.
  • Participate in building a digital domestic violence prevention campaign led by the Youth Engagement Manager.
  • Partner with schools, after school programs, community centers, Department of Children and Families, Boston Police Department, Boston district courts, the faith community, and other partners to provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed supports to male-identifying youth impacted by domestic violence.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of referrals and relationships with youth-serving community groups, organizations, advocates, and government entities to refer cases when needed.
  • Participate in team and agency meetings.
  • Represent the agency at meetings with community collaborators and at other events.
  • Work as a team player with other program and agency staff.
  • Develop own professional development plan and attend trainings, meetings, and conferences within Casa Myrna and in the community.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor and agency.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of services, updating database information and preparing periodic reports as required and ensure accurate and timely reporting on services provided as required by agency protocols.
