Requirements

  • A two (2) year post-secondary diploma in law enforcement, law and security administration, police foundations, or an enforcement-related discipline.
  • Designation as a Certified Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO(C)) through the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association.
  • Designation as a Certified Property Standards Officer (CPSO) through the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience, including parking enforcement.
  • Proficiency in a Windows-based environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the MS Office Suite (including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Understanding of database applications.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory police record check.
  • Successful candidates are required to hold and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and qualify for the Town’s Safe Driver Program criteria.
  • Self-motivated, solutions-oriented team player with technical knowledge of and experience in municipal law enforcement and provincial statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team environment and work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to listen attentively and ask questions for clarification and understanding.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and discretion when working with the public.
  • Strong reasoning, analytical, numerical, research, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to solve problems by identifying, gathering, and processing relevant information.
  • Ability to navigate difficult interpersonal situations in a positive manner.
  • Adeptness in conflict resolution, with goals to improve communication, diffuse tension, and resolve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and enforce all municipal regulatory by-laws, including Property Standards, Zoning, and Traffic by-laws.
  • Investigate, document, and prosecute by-law infractions.
  • Coordinate joint enforcement measures.
  • Respond to emergency property standards measures.
  • Perform conflict resolution.
  • Provide guidance and direction in matters related to by-law enforcement.
  • Educate and issue tickets for non-compliance.
  • Respond to resident complaints and conduct proactive patrols.
  • Provide parking enforcement for special events, parks, and school zones.
  • Attend trials and provide evidence as needed.
