About The Position

SNAP is hiring 5 Full-Time Seasonal Energy Specialists to join our Community Action Team and make a meaningful impact by helping local families access essential energy assistance services. As an Energy Specialist, you'll provide compassionate customer service while helping individuals and families navigate energy assistance programs and connect with valuable community resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of customer service, administrative support, clerical, or related experience
  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and professional customer service to diverse and vulnerable populations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply program rules, policies, procedures, and grant requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-volume, and high-stress environments with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to adapt to changing program requirements, technology, workflows, and funding guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Proficiency in computer systems and office technology including data entry, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), SharePoint, Salesforce, email systems, scanners, and other office software
  • Basic mathematical and analytical skills necessary to perform income calculations, grant calculations, and data review functions
  • Successful completion of agency and program-specific training requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Experience in social services, community action, public assistance, or non-profit programs
  • Experience working with low-income or vulnerable populations
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance may be required for some assignments

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate customer service.
  • Help individuals and families navigate energy assistance programs.
  • Connect individuals and families with valuable community resources.
  • Review and critique applications and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform income calculations, grant calculations, and data review functions.
  • Travel locally for outreach, meetings, or training as needed.
  • Interact extensively via phone, computer, and in-person with clients.
  • Potentially travel to outreach locations, community sites, or temporary work locations, including occasional outdoor settings.
  • Handle clients experiencing crisis situations, emotional distress, or urgent utility needs.
  • Adapt to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including work in other areas to cover absences or relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload.
