About The Position

Position Summary Schedule energy purchases/sales with control areas, utilities, and energy marketers. Ensures compliance with regional reserve sharing groups, NERC, and the provisions of transmission tariffs. Creates and processes NERC Tags, uses OASIS to reserve and purchase transmission needed to support trading activities, and creates additional trading margins through knowledge of least-cost transmission and displacement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a strong preference for emphasis in technical studies, finance, accounting, or economics.
  • Two years of experience may be substituted for each year of college - 8 years required if not in possession of degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in WECC bilateral markets and/or ISO/RTO environments (SPP preferred; familiarity with MISO, PJM, or ERCOT a plus).
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end deal flow, including scheduling, tagging, and settlement (Day-Ahead vs. Real-Time, deviations, cuts/curtailments).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to coordinate across traders, ISOs, transmission providers, and counterparties in real-time environments.

Responsibilities

  • Create energy schedules for each Xcel regulated electric operating company and perform daily check out of such schedules with affected control areas and other transaction participants.
  • Complete all electronic tags ensure all pre-scheduled energy transactions are properly tagged and in compliance with applicable NERC regulations.
  • Create and distribute scheduling packages that contain all needed transaction data for real-time schedule management.
  • Secure short-term transmission resources as needed through the use of OASIS and direct contact with non-jurisdictional transmission providers.
  • Develops innovative and cost-effective ways to implement energy transactions and optimizes energy schedule paths to minimize transmission costs and associated losses.
  • Works closely with Energy Traders to identify and secure constrained transmission paths, recommend least cost transmission solutions, and utilize purchased power contract delivery point flexibility.
  • Processes new transmission agreements as needed, gains access to new regional OASIS nodes, and maintains files of authorized trading personnel on behalf of the security agent.
  • Maintains detailed, accurate, and up to date records of all prescheduled transactions, including system purchases and sales, proprietary purchases and sales, associated transmission charges, and any other ISO or third-party charges.
  • Ensures adherence to purchased power contract terms and conditions.
  • Researches regional OASIS nodes to find least cost transmission paths for contemplated transactions.
  • Develops purchase recommendations for both system and proprietary transmission positions.
  • Uses extensive knowledge of regional transmission systems to train and educate other trading staff members.
  • Supports the development and implementation of IT systems designed to improve the transaction process flow.
  • Ensures that transaction information needed to support real-time management of preschedules is included with real-time scheduling package.
