About The Position

ICF’s Energy and Climate Planning Interns contribute to the development of innovative, analytical, high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff. Our Interns are given opportunities to work on assignments that foster growth and allow them to develop solutions within the policy, power, gas, renewable energy, distributed resources and climate planning sectors. Through client engagements, colleague and peer interactions, and specialized training, ICF Interns develop subject matter expertise and project management skills. This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2027. Work may be hybrid from our Reston, VA or Arlington, VA offices. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.

Requirements

  • By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours is required in Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field
  • U.S. Citizenship is required per Federal contracts

Nice To Haves

  • By start date, acceptance/ enrollment verification, or at least 9 credit hours of completed graduate-level courses in Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field
  • A completed bachelor's degree
  • Strong interest in one or more of these areas: energy economics, energy finance, climate, greenhouse gas accounting, operations research, and energy policy analysis
  • The ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
  • Basic knowledge of R, Python and/or other coding languages
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills and capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
  • Working knowledge of US energy markets, policies, and technology

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced quantitative and economic analysis of energy and environmental markets
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of ICF proprietary models and databases
  • Evaluate the impact of future regulation and support the development of client strategies to manage change
  • Write analysis for major corporate and government clients’ deliverables
  • Support the development of research synthesis reports, industry benchmarking, quantitative analysis and policy summaries
  • Contribute to business development and marketing efforts and thought leadership development through market research, data analysis and creation of marketing content
