About The Position

Mitsui & Co. Energy Marketing and Services (USA), Inc. (MEMS) and Mitsui E&P USA LLC (MEPUSA) are affiliated energy companies based in Houston’s Galleria/Uptown area. MEMS focuses on energy marketing, trading, and services across North America, while MEPUSA focuses on the exploration and production of oil and natural gas. Together, we are seeking paid interns for temporary, full-time positions as part of our Summer 2027 Rotational Internship Program, where students can contribute to meaningful work and learn how an integrated energy business operates. During this immersive 12-week program, interns will complete two 6-week rotations that provide exposure to a wide range of business functions across MEMS and MEPUSA. Depending on candidate interests and business needs, interns may support areas such as Accounting, Energy Trading (Oil, NG, LNG, Power), Market Analytics, Business Development, Human Resources, IT, and Land. Assignments may include departmental rotations, project-based work, and other hands-on learning experiences, that expose interns to key functions within the energy industry where Interns will apply classroom knowledge, gain practical skills, and learn about energy operations across multiple commodities. Top-performing interns may be considered for a full-time development program upon graduation, offering an opportunity to begin a career in the energy industry.

  • Strong interest in energy, including marketing, trading, exploration and production, etc.
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn, solid quantitative/analytical skills, and general awareness of energy markets.
  • Academic background relevant to the available internship opportunities, such as Energy, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field.
  • Current college juniors and seniors who are eager to apply their academic knowledge, develop practical skills, and gain hands-on experience in the energy industry.
  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Participation in energy trading, investment, and risk management programs like TRIP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to the functions, processes, and priorities of the assigned department within MEMS or MEPUSA.
  • Participate in two 6-week departmental rotations, project-based assignments, or other structured learning experiences based on business needs and the intern’s placement.
  • Support the Back Office team by: Analyzing market structures, trading standards, and compliance requirements (including SOX) while supporting accurate invoicing and payment processes.
  • Monitoring cash flow, assisting with forecasting and reconciliations, and supporting margin calculations.
  • Collaborating with Operations and Front Office teams to validate settlements and contribute to process improvements across financial operations.
  • Support the Middle Office team by: Gathering and analyzing financial statements, credit ratings, and related data to establish and manage counterparty credit lines.
  • Managing outgoing/incoming parent guarantees and tracking expiration timelines.
  • Coordinating with the Mitsui USA Credit Team, MEMS Compliance, and Legal on credit documentation, including guaranty agreements and NDAs.
  • Support the Energy Trading & Marketing team with: Provide daily market reporting, conduct supply-and-demand analysis, and create market analysis tools.
  • Attend industry conferences or events, as required.
  • Support special projects, process improvements, and ad hoc assignments across departments by providing administrative and analytical assistance as needed.
  • Contribute to meaningful projects and daily assignments within the intern’s designated department.
  • Gather and analyze information, prepare reports or presentations, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members across MEMS and MEPUSA while learning how different functions support the organizations and the broader energy industry.
