About The Position

This is an exciting and challenging position where the engineer will be asked to identify, develop, and provide operations and maintenance best practices and protocols for MEP systems. The role involves supporting the procurement of energy-efficient systems and equipment, and providing on-site primary systems management for central heating and chilling plants and related distribution systems. This includes ongoing analysis of major energy-consuming systems to identify areas for energy and energy-cost reductions through performance optimization. Facilities may require a full-time specialist to manage and support central power plant and building mechanical/electrical systems operation. The position also entails providing oversight of preventive maintenance service contracts, design reviews of major capital construction projects, and evaluating various energy-saving technologies for viable return on investment. Additionally, the engineer will provide technical support for quick payback energy efficiency projects, assist clients in planning and implementing updated Building Management System projects, develop and implement space consolidation plans, and provide technical assistance and training to client staff on mechanical and controls equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and provide operations and maintenance best practices and protocols for MEP systems.
  • Provide support for the procurement of energy-efficient systems and equipment.
  • Provide on-site primary systems management for central heating and chilling plants and related distribution systems, including ongoing analysis of each of the facility’s major energy-consuming systems.
  • Identify areas for energy and energy-cost reductions by optimizing performance.
  • Provide oversight of preventive maintenance service contracts.
  • Provide design reviews of major capital construction projects at preliminary, 30%, 60%, 90% and final documents.
  • Evaluate and present various energy-saving technologies to determine if they have a viable return on investment and help reduce energy costs or enhance operations.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations for implementation of quick payback energy efficiency projects (at a lower dollar amount, normally below $20K investment) in areas of energy efficient lighting, steam trap replacements, etc.
  • Assist client in planning and implementation of updated Building Management System projects.
  • Develop and implement space consolidation plans, including efforts around building decommissioning to reduce energy costs/consumption.
  • Provide technical assistance, and/or any training to client staff in operation and maintenance of mechanical and controls equipment such as boilers, chillers and BMS.
