About The Position

Cadmus seeks an Energy Engineer to join its Energy Services Division. This role requires strong analytical, research, and communication skills, with experience in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a strong technical background from related fields. The Energy Engineer will direct and execute energy projects for Cadmus' clients. This includes leading site inspections, supporting energy audits and decarbonization assessments, deploying monitoring equipment, using diagnostic tools, collecting data from control systems, analyzing energy and financial data, and developing client-facing deliverables. The role also involves managing peer and junior staff, monitoring project budgets and deliverables, and presenting work products to various audiences. The ideal candidate is a motivated, detail-oriented problem solver with expertise in engineering and energy, capable of managing themselves and collaborating effectively to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial engineering or related field.
  • Between five (5) to seven (7) years of demonstrated professional experience in the energy sector.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate complicated issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and adapt to changing deadlines in a fast-paced, deliverable-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently on assignments, learn new skills, and mentor colleagues.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness for regular travel domestically. Typical trips to client sites may be ½ day or full day and within driving distance. Some trips may require air travel and some trips may extend to 1 or 2 weeks duration.
  • Valid driver’s license (vehicle ownership not required).

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering in Training (EIT) credential in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Proficiency in energy simulation modeling (OpenStudio, Energy Plus, eQuest, etc.).
  • Proficiency in coding with Python, R, and/or SQL.
  • Experience deploying power metering and data logging equipment.
  • Electrician license.
  • AEE Certified Energy Manager or Certified Measurement & Verification Professional certification.
  • MEP (Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing) Design experience.
  • Demand Side Management (DSM) evaluation experience.
  • Experience with power and energy analysis techniques, including regression models, bin analysis, cross-validation, and parameter tuning/optimization.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and tactics, such as scheduling software and budget tracking.
  • Proven ability to self-train through additional training programs and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial, industrial, multifamily, and residential site visits to support energy projects.
  • Collect key data and document as-found building conditions using equipment, software, photographs, and forms.
  • Review building equipment and controls systems to understand setpoints, schedules and operating parameters.
  • Use diagnostic tools (e.g., temperature sensors, motor loggers, combustion analyzers, blower doors) to collect key data for demand reduction, energy savings, and emissions analysis.
  • Identify savings opportunities in the field and while reviewing and analyzing data.
  • Analyze collected data using analytical techniques and software tools such as MS Excel, Python, or R; identify trends; optimize weather or production-normalized quantitative models; summarize takeaways, events, and impacts.
  • Quantify impacts from proposed or implemented energy interventions using engineering or statistical methods, industry software, and reference materials.
  • Evaluate project feasibility with economic analyses like return on investment.
  • Support energy projects for a wide variety of technologies including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, exterior envelope, solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage system (BESS), electric vehicle (EV), and specialized process systems (compressed air, commercial kitchen equipment, laboratory systems, etc.).
  • Prepare and present findings through written and oral communications, including reports, memos, and presentations; communicate clearly with varied audiences, including clients, community stakeholders, and peers.
  • Engage clients (e.g., utilities, municipal, and state agencies) to scope out needs, identify key services or products, build partnerships, and implement energy solutions.
  • Manage self effectively, balancing priorities and communicating challenges to leadership; optimize working hours to preserve work-life balance.
  • Manage small teams of consultants effectively, providing leadership and direction while monitoring task quality, budget, and timeline; drive effective outcomes and quality deliverables while building community and shared purpose among colleagues.
  • Support business development and company growth through positive client relationships, industry outreach and networking, and support of project proposals via budget and written content development.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external parties, including interdisciplinary teams, supervisors and delegates, clients, peer professionals, and members of the public.
  • Deliver high-quality work on-time and on-budget.
