About The Position

Michaels Energy is seeking entry-level engineers passionate about energy conservation and possessing the technical skills to manage energy cost-saving projects for various buildings. This role involves assisting building owners, utilities, consultants, and partners in saving energy and reducing utility bills. Key responsibilities include performing energy assessments on commercial and industrial buildings, recommending changes to building automation systems, conducting energy calculations, and writing reports. Technical tasks encompass identifying energy efficiency measures, diagnosing HVAC control issues, assessing equipment condition, estimating project costs, and conducting site visits. Effective client and customer communication through meetings, presentations, and written reports is crucial. Additional work may involve data centers, new construction verification, energy modeling (OpenStudio), custom rebate analysis, industrial new construction projects, developing regression models, and strategic energy management. The ideal candidate is passionate about energy efficiency and motivated to remove customer barriers to project implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in mechanical, chemical, or building systems engineering
  • Zero to six years experience combining any of the following: Energy efficiency industry – e.g., utilities or performance contracting; HVAC operations, controls, and/or building energy investigations; Utility program experience in retro-commissioning, ASHRAE level 2 energy audits, or custom rebate calculations; Software-based building energy modeling; Managing building retrofit projects; Design or implementation of HVAC Controls; Building codes/safety standards; HVAC consulting/design-build engineer
  • Excels at communicating complicated ideas to a variety of audiences
  • Skilled at interfacing with contractors and building owners
  • Deep interest in energy, systems, and process efficiency, and improving productivity
  • Lifetime self-learner
  • Ability to travel up to 30% regionally

Nice To Haves

  • EIT or PE (Professional Engineer) is preferred but not required
