Energy Data Analysis - (Year-Round) Graduate Internship

The candidate will support a variety of tasks related to renewable energy data analysis and data collection with a focus on behind-the-meter solar analysis in NLR's Strategic Energy Analysis Center. The successful candidate will have strong research, data analysis, consolidation, and writing skills as well as experience compiling and manipulating large data sets for analysis. Experience with data collection using approaches like web scraping and a strong background with coding languages like R and/or Python required. The candidate will support renewable energy technology, policy, market, financing, and regulatory projects through data collection, cleaning, and analysis; literature reviews; writing; and spreadsheet analysis.
Requirements
- Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
- Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
- Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
- Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
- Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.
- Expertise in data collection, organization, cleaning, and manipulation and familiarity with at least one software tool to scrape, manage, visualize, and analyze.
- R or Python preferred.
- Must be personable, professional, and comfortable engaging with stakeholders.
- Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Nice To Haves
- Background in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Great attention to detail and excellent research, written communication, organizational, and Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Interest in creative problem solving for novel data collection and processing efforts.
Responsibilities
- Data collection, cleaning, and analysis related to solar permitting, inspection, and interconnection
- Leveraging LLMs and other tools for web scraping and data collection to produce novel datasets for industry insights
- Support research projects examining distributed solar policies and other energy-related market analysis.
- Data collection and analysis for renewable energy supply options for large non-residential, commercial and industrial renewable energy buyers.
