About The Position

The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study. This co-op position offers a unique opportunity for college degree-seeking students to engage in a multifaceted role centered around network device testing and engineering design. The selected student will actively participate in the evaluation and testing of network devices and utilize their engineering skills to contribute to the design process.

Requirements

  • The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • Required Degree: Engineering
  • Preferred/Related Discipline: Electrical
  • Year in School: Junior or Senior; Graduate Level Student
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols, configurations, and devices, enabling effective testing and troubleshooting of network equipment.
  • A solid foundation in engineering principles, including mechanical or electrical engineering, to contribute to the design and development processes.
  • A logical and analytical mindset to derive insights from data and apply them to improve network device performance and design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex technical challenges systematically and creatively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly when conducting testing, recording data, and documenting procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability in results.
  • Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

  • The student will be considered an intern if not eligible for the co-op program or if the program is unavailable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct rigorous testing and evaluation of network devices, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards. This includes hardware and software testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to contribute to the design and development of new network devices or improvements to existing ones. This may involve prototyping and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing procedures, results, and design modifications. Produce technical documentation to support product development and regulatory compliance.
  • Actively engage in team discussions, sharing insights and ideas to enhance network device performance and engineering design processes.
