The UT Southwestern Department of Ophthalmology is recruiting an established investigator for a full-time faculty position conducting innovative research related to macular degeneration and other retinal degenerations. Significant endowment support, programmatic development funds, and leadership opportunities are available. The Department is expanding its vision research program and seeks a visionary expert in one or more areas: genetic, epigenetic, and cellular mechanisms of macular or retinal degeneration; retinal regeneration and Müller cell transdifferentiation; neuro-inflammation and microglial biology; or tissue engineering and in vitro modeling of macular disease. Applicants are particularly encouraged to leverage their expertise to build strong collaborations with UT Southwestern vision scientists and neuroscientists. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. and may be clinician-scientists or full-time scientists. Applicants intending to provide patient care must have or be eligible to obtain a Texas Medical License. Appointment and rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. A joint appointment in a basic science department is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will join a supportive Department of Ophthalmology and a vibrant Retina Service that supports translational and clinical projects. They will also join the UT Southwestern scientific community, including researchers in the O’Donnell Brain Institute, the Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease, and departments such as Neuroscience, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Immunology, and Biomedical Engineering. Research core facilities include imaging, histology, metabolic and behavioral phenotyping, protein chemistry, structural biology, cryo-electron microscopy, genomics, genetics, and transgenic technologies. Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter to the Endowed Chair in Macular Degeneration Search Committee at [email protected]. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule. This security-sensitive position is subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information. UT Southwestern is an equal opportunity employer and prohibits unlawful discrimination.
