About The Position

The Emulsion Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt emulsion distributor truck to transport and apply emulsion materials used in roadway construction and maintenance. This role involves applying tack coat, prime coat, fog seal, chip seal, and/or related applications on road surfaces. The driver will set and maintain proper spray bar nozzles, valves, pumps, pressure, temperature, heating systems, and application rates to ensure proper operation. They will also perform pre- and post-inspections, complete required logs, and communicate efficiently with the paving team to coordinate application timing and coverage. Maintaining proper documentation of loads, deliveries, and daily production reports, and complying with all DOT, state, and local truck and highway regulations are also key responsibilities. Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker and Hazmat endorsement.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles/equipment through all types of environments, including off road and job sites.
  • Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
  • Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in safety sensitive construction settings, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
  • Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct daily.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ experience operating distributor trucks or similar construction equipment, preferred.
  • Experience with chip and slurry seal operations.
  • Knowledge of asphalt emulsion applications and roadway construction operations.
