About The Position

GFL Environmental is seeking versatile CDL Drivers to support its expanding lines of business in Cloverdale and the surrounding Botetourt County area. Drivers will be responsible for driving and operating commercial frontload, roll-off, or residential equipment along designated routes to collect and transport waste. This role involves navigating trucks into tight spaces, servicing customer containers, performing daily inspections, and ensuring customer sites are left cleaner than found. Drivers will also utilize technology such as key maps and GPS for navigation and maintain digital/manual logbooks.

Requirements

  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B) with at least 1 year of commercial driving experience (or a CDL school certificate).
  • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs repetitively and occasionally move/push up to 300 lbs.
  • A self-starter attitude with the flexibility to adapt to changing Virginia weather conditions and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance requirements; ability to recognize unacceptable waste (flammables, hazardous materials).
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate commercial frontload, roll-off, or residential equipment along designated routes to collect and transport waste to post-collection facilities.
  • Navigate trucks into and out of tight clearance spaces and enclosures, using mirrors to back distances of 120+ feet.
  • Open gates and enclosures to access containers; manually roll 3-4 yard cans on castors into position for dumping as needed.
  • Perform rigorous daily pre- and post-trip inspections (DVIRs) and follow all lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ensure customer sites are cleaner than you found them by clearing loose trash or spills during the dumping process.
  • Use key maps and GPS to navigate routes and maintain digital/manual logbooks and productivity sheets.
