Northwest Ambulance is seeking an EMT Educator to help shape the next generation of EMS professionals. In this role, you will deliver hands-on classroom and field training, welcome and prepare new hires for success, and ensure our training programs remain current, effective, and aligned with industry best practices. We're looking for an experienced EMT who loves teaching to become our EMT Educator. This role owns the full EMT education pathway at Northwest Ambulance, from a new hire's first day of orientation through independent field practice and ongoing competency. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you'll work alongside our RN Educator as the EMT-level counterpart, partnering with operations leadership, Field Training Officers, Medical Direction, and QA/QM to make sure every EMT is trained to the same high, consistent standard. This role suits someone who's sharp in the field, patient in the classroom, and enjoys building systems that make good training repeatable.

Requirements

  • Current Washington State EMT certification in good standing
  • Demonstrated competence in BLS patient care, ambulance operations, documentation, and safety
  • Ability to teach adults, give direct and respectful feedback, and evaluate competency objectively
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Calm, professional presence in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform the full range of motion required in field and training settings
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal/customer-service skills
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and deadline management
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving ability, with sound prioritization
  • The composure to perform well in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
  • Position requires varying times sitting; either driving or carrying out tasks at a desk.
  • Position requires full range of motion. Movements include but are not limited to: standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, pulling and pushing, lifting, and grasping.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees in this role are responsible for performing duties that directly impact of patients, coworkers, and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of recent EMS field experience preferred (strong EMTs with demonstrated teaching ability will be considered)
  • Instructor credentials such as BLS Instructor, WA State EMS Evaluator, or EVIP/EVOC Instructor (or willingness to obtain them)
  • Experience with ESO or similar ePCR documentation systems
  • Familiarity with Northwest Ambulance operations and policies

Responsibilities

  • Lead EMT onboarding. Deliver the EMT portions of new employee orientation, including classroom, skills, equipment, documentation, and safety content, and prepare new hires for field training.
  • Strengthen our Field Training program. Help select and develop EMT FTOs and preceptors, and maintain standardized evaluation tools so every trainee is measured against the same objective expectations.
  • Teach and validate clinical skills. Run hands-on skills stations and realistic scenarios covering patient assessment, airway, BLS resuscitation, patient movement, infection prevention, and ambulance equipment.
  • Turn data into training. Partner with QA/QM to spot recurring clinical, documentation, or safety trends and build focused education around them.
  • Coach and remediate. Provide non-punitive, Just Culture–based coaching and build remediation plans when performance gaps are identified.
  • Roll out change. Translate new policies, protocols, and equipment into practical training, job aids, and competency sheets that field crews can actually use.
  • Keep education on track. Maintain an annual education calendar, track completions and trends, and keep training records accurate.
