About The Position

SSM Health is seeking a PRN (as-needed) EMT, LPN, or Medical Assistant to support our clinical team. This role offers flexible hours, with positions available for 10, 20, or 40 hours per week, operating Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The position assists in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients, receiving patient care assignments from the registered nurse (RN) in charge and initiating delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence. The role involves collecting and documenting data for reassessment, providing appropriate data to the Physician, RN, and/or LPN for analysis, and performing routine cardiac monitoring and 12-lead EKGs as appropriate. Responsibilities also include stocking and maintaining supplies and equipment, preparing and cleaning exam rooms, assisting with delegated clerical duties, and preparing patients for discharge or completion of their visit.

Requirements

  • One of the following credentials in good standing: EMT (state-certified/licensed), LPN (state-licensed), or Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA preferred or equivalent experience per clinic policy).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment; strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow all HIPAA/privacy and safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems; electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) experience preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients; obtain and document vital signs and chief complaint.
  • Assist with exams and in-office procedures within scope of practice.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, wound care, splinting, and point-of-care testing (as applicable to licensure/certification and training).
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment; follow infection prevention and safety standards.
  • Accurately document care in the medical record and communicate effectively with the care team.
  • Support patient flow, triage/priority setting, and exceptional patient service.
  • Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge.
  • Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities for specific patient age group served.
  • Collects and documents data for reassessment at specific times for patient population.
  • Documents and provides appropriate data to the Physician, RN and/or LPN for analysis and validation of patient’s response to care or treatment and when significant change occurs in the patient’s condition.
  • As appropriate to the environment working in, demonstrates knowledge of appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12 lead EKG.
  • Performs 12 lead EKG on patient according to policy and procedures.
  • May assist physician and nursing staff with medical procedures.
  • Stocks and maintains supplies and equipment in keeping with patient care needs and cost containment.
  • Turns over rooms after each patient use: Cleans carrier, changes sheets, restocks supplies, disposes of trash, ensures equipment returns to its proper place, and takes care of instrument trays according to the current procedure.
  • Assists with delegated clerical duties such as answering telephones, relaying messages transcription of physician orders, preparing and organizing the patient’s medical record.
  • Prepares patients for discharge or completion of patient visit and accompanies them upon dismissal as indicated.
  • Transports patients to a receiving department or facility if indicated.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
